First off, Def Jam or any of the other labels mentioned will not “Close”. They’re just “unmerging”. Here’s why I think it’s a good thing.
How it worked before was each label (since the merging of Island) every label worked (Def Jam / Island / Motown ) separate but under the same Umbrella.. The separation means that each company would stand alone which could be good because every label will have someone who’s directly responsible versus one chairman responsible for multiple labels. Restructuring in some cases is good, and in this case it may be more a direct focus within each label.
