More Life is not an album. Please stop calling it an album. It’s a ‘playlist’.

drake more life

Drake’s More Life playlist dropped and Twitter went crazy. People, for the most part, seem to like it. But something weird happened. People started referring to it as an album. And for some weird reason, it infuriated me that people were referring to it as such.

Here’s why. Drake and his team spent months describing this project as a ‘playlist’. Here’s the same narrative they gave over and over again. “Drake described More Life as “a body of work [he’s] creating to bridge the gap between [any] major releases”. He further commented on the project during an interview with Complex, detailing his intention to “[create] a playlist to give you a collection of songs that become the soundtrack to your life”.”

Drake is clearly aiming to innovate and move away from the term “mixtape” when providing music to his listeners outside from his album. So many people, after hearing this over and over still seemed to call this project an album. I’m always trying to do things differently… to innovate. And hats off to drake for trying to do the same. With that being said, please respect this attempt at innovation and refer to More Life as a playlist. Thanks. – Vince
