Sean Penn thinks the Mexican Government wanted to put him at risk after El Chapo interview

On January 9th, Rolling Stone published a story/interview written by Sean Penn with Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera, otherwise known as El Chapo. Sean Penn wanted to have the piece focus on the war on drugs but it overshadowed by the fact that El Chapo was captured a day before Rolling Stone published.

I thought the piece was good because Sean Penn isn’t a journalist first. I write from time to time but I’m not a “journalist”. Vanity Fair, Gawker and a couple other websites really took shots at Sean but like I said, I thought I was good. On an upcoming interview with “60 Minutes”, Sean describes what it took to meet with Mr. Guzmán and how the Mexican government is putting his life in danger. What did you think about the Rolling Stone interview?

The actor is speaking out about his secret trip to Mexico to meet notorious drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. Mexico recaptured the cartel leader a week ago. Penn made headlines the following day when Rolling Stone published his account of visiting the kingpin in hiding last October. In an interview for this Sunday’s “60 Minutes,” Penn spoke to “CBS This Morning” co-host Charlie Rose in Santa Monica to talk about his seven hours with Guzman.
