If you watch movies at all, I can guarantee that you’ve seen the work of Industrial Light & Magic. Founded in 1975 by George Lucas in 1975 to bring visual effects for Star Wars to life; today, ILM features the largest and most advanced digital effects pipeline in the entertainment industry. From the earliest creation of wholly computer-generated characters in The Abyss, Terminator 2: Judgement Day and Jurassic Park. Here’s a few of their milestones:

First use of a motion control camera (Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope)

First completely computer-generated sequence

First completely computer-generated character, the “stained glass man” in Young Sherlock Holmes

First morphing sequence, in Willow

And so much more…

Watch the Documentary and let me know what you think.
